Understanding Testicular Terms – Definitions

IMPORTANT WORD DEFINITIONS YOU NEED TO KNOW

PENIS– a male genital organ of higher vertebrates carrying the duct for the transfer of sperm during copulation. It consists largely of erectile tissue & serves for the eliminating of urine.

TESTICLE– either of the two organs that produce sperm in men & is in the scrotum behind the penis.

SCROTUM– a pouch of skin containing the testicles.

URETHRA– the duct by which urine is conveyed out of the body from the bladder & which in male vertebrates also conveys semen.

EPIDIDYMIS (ep-i-did-y-mis)- a highly convoluted duct behind the testes, along which sperm passes to the vas deferens.

VAS DEFERENS (vas de-fe-rens)- the duct which conveys the sperm from the testicle to the urethra.

SEMINAL VESELE– each of the pair of glands which open in the vas deferens, near to its junction with the urethra & secrete many of the components of semen.

PROSTATE GLAND– a gland surrounding the neck of the bladder in male releasing prostatic fluid.
